Welcome to Whitworth Elementary School

The staff of Whitworth welcome students, parents, and patrons to be a part of our program. Our staff is committed to the partnership of home, school, and community to best support student success. Whitworth takes extra steps to ensure that every student is safe and cared for.

Special Programs at Whitworth

Reading Support - There are numerous programs to support reading at our school. Through the efforts of our Media Specialist, the Title I staff, Special Education staff, as well as parents and community members, we have programs such as; Reading buddies, Battle of the Books, Breakfast Reading, School wide Read-ins, Read Alouds and many other special programs to focus on the importance of reading and literacy

Lunch Buddies - This program pairs students with caring trusted adults who spend time each week together playing games, reading to each other, playing on the playground, or just visiting. The modeling and support that occurs for the students proves invaluable in building self esteem.

Student Leadership - Our students are involved in such activities at the school such as organizing service projects, planning assemblies, and special activities through their bi-weekly student council.

In addition to the above listed programs, we have strong programs in:

Character Education
Second Steps Violence Prevention
Incentives for Good Citizenship and attendance
Physical Education
Title I (Extra Support for Reading & Math)
Special Education (4 Resource centers to support students with disabilities)

Parent Involvement

Parents are encouraged to be involved at Whitworth Elementary in a variety of ways. Many parents spend time weekly volunteering in the classrooms performing tasks, such as; tutoring one on one or working with small groups, doing paperwork or crafts, or demonstrating some special talent or skill. Many parents are involved in the Parent Teacher Club. This group meets monthly and raises funds to support such activities as; field trips, artist in residence, assemblies, and the purchase of equipment and supplies that are not covered in the district budget.
