Building Facts

 

Morrison Campus Alternative Program (MCAP) is housed in the southeast wing of the old Morrison School building, on the corner of Ash and Main Streets.  The Dallas School District offices occupy the northwest wing.

 

Morrison School was built in 1935, and during its history has housed students from kindergarten through high school.  In 1999 it became the home of the district’s alternative high school program. 

 

Program Facts

 

MCAP serves high school students, with a focus on 11th and 12th graders who are not successful in the traditional high school setting.  MCAP's small classes, fewer transitions, and individualized program provide an environment in which many formerly unsuccessful and "at risk" students thrive and even excel.  Approximately forty students graduate each year, and many go on to further education including trade schools, certificate programs, community colleges and 4-year universities.

Morrison offers something unique: a sheltered, safe learning environment in a closed campus setting.  We have a strong sense of community and invite our students to join us in making school a positive, rewarding experience.  We foster a college informality which allows us to treat out students as responsible citizens.  We promote a caring and structured environment that provides an opportunity for students to reach their goals and accept responsibility for their behavior.

MCAP currently has four teachers, and can serve approximately 64 students.  We strive to keep our class sizes small, so that we can provide the personal attention each student needs to be successful.  MCAP students are welcome to participate in Dallas High School activities, subject to OSAA and behavior-related eligibility.
